King Lear Video Challenge: Channel 4

Videos should be uploaded to the YouTube group www.youtube.com/group/kinglearexperience

You'll need to start your own You Tube account to do this, if you don't already have one, then go to the group.

Your videos will then be transferred by us to The King Lear Experience website kinglearexperience.co.uk

Log in to kinglearexperience.co.uk and you can join in on the blog by asking questions of the heavy weight cast and crew including actors Pete Postlethwaite, John Shrapnel and director Rupert Goold and get feedback on your own King Lear videos.
The challenge to you is to make your own short video clips, which will go alongside the video diaries and interviews with the actors, director and designers of the production.

Here's our suggestions for the King Lear Experience 15 second video challenge:

• This production of King Lear is set around 1979 and is very much about the relationships and upheavals within a family.

• Condense the whole of the play King Lear into a 15 second video!

Take any of these moments and condense it into a 15 seconds video:

• ‘Out vile jelly!' - recreate this violent scene where Gloucester is blinded and Cornwall and the servant are fatally injured. Act 3 scene 7

• ‘How much do you love us?' - recreate this scene where Lear asks his three daughters to say how much they love him. Gonerill and Regan try to out-do each other but Cordelia can only speak the truth. Act 1 Scene 1

• What were you doing in 1979? Why not dig out any family video clips and photos you have from the time. Or alternatively you can make a short video of you and your relatives remembering the 1970s.

• Recreate the scene with Lear and the Fool in the terrible storm. Act 3 Scene 2.

• Film yourself in a storm saying the speech ‘ blow winds and crack your cheeks' the worse the weather the better!

• Disguise yourself as Poor Tom and create your own Poor Tom menu.

• Create a weather report from the point of view of the play, giving symbolic warnings through out that relate to the story.

• Stretch out your own death scene as long as you can - can be upto 2 minutes - ending with the words ‘O, untimely death!' as spoken by Oswald in act 4 scene 6.

• Create a Horoscope for each of the characters warning them of what's to come in the play.

• How does having a large bushy beard effect your every day life? Show the advantages or disadvantages of having a large bushy beard eg eating and drinking.

• Film yourself telling your Dad how much you love him.

• Tell your parents how much you love them through video.

• Create the most innovative special effects to show someone being blinded.

• Who do you know who looks like King Lear? Post you photos here!

• Fools philosophy
• ‘Have more than thou showest
• speak less than thou knowest
• lend less than thou owest
• ride more than than thou goest
• learn more than thou trowest
• leave thy drink and thy whore
• and keep in a door
• and thou shalt have more than two tens to a score'

• Write your own ‘Fools philosophy' for life.

• Call someone ‘Nuncle'.
