BOOM! YOUR CHOICE! YOUR VOICE!
Over the weekend Club Flix headed off to Exeter to take part in BOOM! A one of a kind volunteering project for 16 - 25 year olds. All who went had the chance to learn and put into practice all of their film making skills.
How would we do ?
The day started out looking positive that was until we missed the train. However that was sorted in an instant and we were on our way.... That was until we reached Bristol, we missed the next train. But no need to fear, the Club Flix team sorted it out and only 15 minutes behind schedule we were well on our way to Exeter.
Once arriving at the Mercure Hotel, the rather snazzy location of the workshop, we were introduced to the rest of the volunteers. People from other Film production groups, people from Universities and from Youth groups. Different individuals with different ideas, skills and concerns they wanted to express. This was the time to let people know what they thought.
After learning a bit about everyone we set to work. Cameras were spread among us and we had a go at practising our camera angles. Some were better than others but with practice everyone got the hang of it.
Moving on and Each group had a selection of words and needed to come up with ideas incorporating them all.We were now coming up with some wild and wacky ideas.With our minds open and the inspiration flowing, we set out in groups to make our own film. Armed only with a camera, our new ideas and skills we got to work.
The weather outside, threw up a few issues, the sun was out but the wind was against us, and trying to reduce the noise from the wind seemed near impossible. However we persevered and eventually our short films came together with only a few minor issues. For future reference keep your fingers away from the camera lense!!
All of the BOOM! volunteers then came back together to show off their handywork. Some were Comedies, others Drama, documentaries and we even had a few Chat shows.Once everyone had had their moment of glory, whether on screen or off, we were then presented with our NEW Club Flix Camera and our FREE BOOM! t-shirts.
With all of our free goodies, we then made our way back to the trainstation. The train journey back was much smoother, this may have been because we were no longer alone. A few groups from BOOM! were also heading back to Bath so we all travelled back together. A great finish to a fantastic day.
BOOM! was definatley a great experince for anyone new to film making, who wanted to learn some of the key aspects of Filming. All of the Club Flix members who participated are now preparing themselves for the next BOOM! workshop, concentrating on editing. Once completed we will have the knowledge to go out and make our own films and hopefully teach others what we have learnt.
