Club Flix and the American Intern

This past semester, in order to add to my cultural experiences while studying abroad in Bath, I worked at Suited and Booted as the Club Flix Intern. If you or your parents called the office and were initially confused by the sound of an American accent answering the phone, I apologize. My job these past three months was to make dozens of phone calls, build spreadsheets with contact information, and write a lot of e-mails. In addition to learning the ins and outs of Club Flix, recruiting new members, sending out flyers, and making workshop bookings, I also learned a lot about English lingo. For instance, ‘0’ is pronounced ‘oh’ not ‘zero’, and you ‘post’ letters, as oppose to ‘mailing’ them. Then there is the general cookie/biscuit and fry/chip/crisp confusion. Fortunately, the language barrier had very little impact on my time at Suited and Booted, except to remind me that I was in a different country of English-speakers. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Suited and Booted,
and all of the workshops, events, and meetings I was able to attend with Club Flix and Club Flix Juniors members. I want to take this opportunity to thank Sara, Chris, Helen, and Izzie for all of their help and for making my internship experience both educational and memorable. Thanks!
