Charlie Small on the Summer School directing workshop
The directing workshop was carried out on Friday morning by Esther-May Campbell. In the morning we run through the processes of making a film, like idea, pre-production, production, post-production and exhibition and distribution. Continuing on, we learnt the processes that happen when we are preparing to record film, such as line-runs, outlining the shots, technical rehearsals, and then actually recording film. We also outlined the different roles on a shoot, and we were each assigned our roles for the filming days.
As a group we re-looked at the script and developed it to improve it, remove any errors and improve the flow of it.
In the afternoon we had our first rehearsal with our actors, running through the lines with them and working out ways of filming it.
We learnt how to critically examine our script and envisage how it would look on camera, whilst developing our script. Having the actors gave us insight into how it would look once film and helped us storyboard for the filming days
